Downfall: Corrupt Inquisition

Gallery

I was the artist on a team of four, working on Downfall. Downfall was a simple 2D platformer where you took on the role of a female warrior who had just awoken from a coma, and needed to figure out who put her in one.

This was the first time I'd ever worked on one game as a class assignment for the semester, and it proved to be a unique challenge as a first-timer. We initially chose a more complex concept, but due to us not really understanding our individual skill level, we had to slowly fix our overscoped project ideals. We met at the library quite a bit to delve into issues regarding how long it would take to create assets, and if code was working smoothly.

Despite the initial struggle, we eventually started gathering our footing and became much more organized. I became much more communicative as the semester progressed, and I ended up creating animations, enemy sprites, and some backgrounds, creating a total of 140+ assets.

This semester was essential to my current abilities as an artist, since it taught me what it was like to work on a team, albeit a small one. It humbled me, and showed me that I needed to learn to accept my failures and embrace criticism in a professional way if I wanted to thrive.

Ever since this experience, I've taken these lessons to heart, and I'll always appreciate this class for opening my eyes.
